DETERRING INTRUDERS

  1. Secure the Perimeter
  • An electric fence can be an excellent deterrent.
  • Make sure your perimeter is also visible, for this a CCTV camera system is very effective.
  • There are smart Technologies available that allow you to monitor your perimeter and home from remote locations.
  1. The Gate
  • Deter burglars from lifting the gate. You can do so by attaching anti lift brackets.
  • Welding a flat bar onto the rack of the sliding rails will prevent burglars from forcing the gate off the rails.
  • Install a good gate motor. There are various smart motors available that allow monitoring of the gate via an app.
  • Use modern remotes that don’t allow copying on settings to be changed.

    1. Outdoor Beams

    • Essentially, outdoor beams are sensors that can detect motion.
    • Outdoor Beams can be pricey, but if placed strategically in your yard, they can be very effective at deterring burglars. Especially if linked to an alarm system.

    1. Alarm System

    • A standard alarm system usually includes door and window sensors, motion detectors should be included too. The Alarm system can be linked to a reaction company, or a monitoring system. These systems are fairly easy to use.
    • An automated home system will allow you access to your security system through a smart phone or computer app.
    • These provide peace of mind when you’re far from home.

    1. CCTV Cameras

    • The benefits of a CCTV system are numerous, here are few;
    • Peace of Mind
A good CCTV system goes quite a way to putting your mind at rest about the safety of your family and home.
    • Excellent Deterrent & Crime Prevention
CCTV camera system might not only make burglars think twice about invading your home. If a crime occurs outside your within your home, it makes it a lot easier to identify the perpetrator. The camera doesn’t lie.
    • Ideal if installed with an Alarm System
As most modern systems allow for remote monitoring through PCs and cell phones, it can be most useful if you are away from home, for example on holiday. You will receive a notification on your phone, you can login to the system and determine if it’s a false alarm or something more serious.
  • Tips to keep your home safe
    • When leaving your home, make sure all points of entry are closed and locked. Windows should be protected with burglar bars.
    • Prevent post from piling up.
    • Leave lights on at night, maybe on a timer.
    • Prevent overgrown plants and lawn.
    • Don’t let bins that have been emptied to remain outside.
    • If leaving on holiday, allow a trusted neighbour or friend to pop in from time to time, to collect post, water plants, switch on lights etc.
    • Do not advertise your absence on social media.
    • DO NOT BECOME COMPLACEMENT. If you have an alarm or electric fence, use it.
